Our next event, entitled, the Gender Wave, will be held on October 22, 2016. The format of this two-hour workshop is a combination of presentations, A-V visuals, Q&A and small group discussions by women who have been active in improving the lives of girls and women in one way or another, as each struggles with the obstacles that have ignored more than 50% of the state’s population.

Gender Wave should be an in-depth participatory experience that focuses upon investigating information, trends and solutions regarding the inequitable status of girls and women solely because of gender. A volunteer steering committee has developed the content, resources and presentations and to facilitate small group discussions. You are invited to be a member of this steering committee. to determine the final touches on the program;

This participatory workshop begins with a keynote address by Robin Greenspun, a woman who knows no limits. Her presentation, as a filmmaker and community activist among other attributes, is followed by speakers, video and discussions on four major topics:

1. Achieving Gender Equity in the Work Place — 3 speakers plus audience small group discussions 3 speakers: Susan Marlow, Malita Melonson, Debfa "Sam" King

2. Stopping Violence Against Women — 3 speakers plus audience small group discussions 3 speakers: Prathi Sharma, Verna Mandez, Ruby Zandra

3. Maximizing Voting Effectiveness — 3 speakers plus audience small group discussions 3 speakers: Kenia Morales, Wendy Gelbert, Megan Rauch

4. Exploring Systematic Structural Indoctrination — 3 speakers plus audience small group discussions 3 speakers: Harley Swisher, Cynthia Cicero, TBA

With this in mind, what should be the culmination of Gender Wave?

Attendees will share in providing their input into a print and digital resource packet to be distributed at the event and updated via the internet. The event will be video taped, as well. The goal is to learn and share how we can become more actively engaged in securing equity for girls and women, which results in families and society becoming economically and socially stronger. Today there are many happenings that indicate our society is ready to secure a safe and equitable environment for girls and women. Learn and share to help create a woman-appreciated future.
