Jean Ford Honored for Contributions in Nevada

Jean Ford was honored posthumously by the Clark County Commission in March 2010 as a part of Women’s History Month. In Clark County she was instrumental in creating the Clark County Library district where many of her papers are archived. In Las Vegas she is best known through the founding of the Nevada Women’s History Project. Dema Guinn: First Lady of Nevada in 1999

One of a series of stories of Nevada’s First Ladies as told by themselves. Each tells experiences prior to their becoming a First Lady and then proceed to describe what was important to them during their years in the Governor’s Mansion. Dema describes her traveling Mammogram project. Videos of the First Ladies between 1959 and 1999 were produced and edited by Women of Diversity Productions for the Southern Nevada Women’s History Project. Jan Jones Presentation 2003 Status of Women

Jan Jones presents part 1 of the status of women in 2003. She is introduced by Kim Russell who lists many of Jan’s accomplishments. Jan was the first woman elected as mayor of the city of Las Vegas. She was a vice-president of Harrahs Entertainment and a leader in the Nevada Democratic Party. Her presentation identifies the societal behaviors that demeans women and prevents them from reaching their potentials.
